Prayer And Share
Prayer & Share
The Heart of Kairos refers to the Prayer and Share ministry, a weekly accountability group within the Kairos Prison Ministry that fosters a Christian community by having incarcerated participants (or "residents") pray together and share experiences in small groups. Through structured questions about their faith journey, successes, and failures, participants find support, spiritual growth, and accountability, which is essential for sustaining the impact of the Kairos Weekend.
Purpose and Structure
Community Building:
The ultimate goal of Kairos is to build a lasting Christian community within the Polunsky, and Prayer and Share meetings are the primary method to accomplish this. Our meetings are held on Tuesdays.
Weekly Meetings:
These groups typically meet once a week on Tuesdays and consist of 3 to 6 participants.
Accountability and Fellowship:
Participants provide accountability and nurture each other in their faith through shared prayer and fellowship.
The Five Accountability Questions
A core component of Prayer and Share is the discussion of five basic questions, which provide structure and focus for the meetings:
1 - How have you helped someone?
2 - What have you learned?
3 - Where have you messed up?
4 - How are you thankful?
5 - Are you praying for specific requests? (A common addition)
Role of Volunteers
Facilitation:
Volunteers from the Kairos outside (free world) Polunsky team often facilitate these groups to provide structure and support.
Not Participants:
Crucially, the volunteers in these groups are not meant to be participants; rather, they facilitate and demonstrate accountability, allowing the residents to build their own community. Sometimes the residents ask the volunteers to join their group
Why it's the "Heart of Kairos"
Sustained Growth:
While the Kairos Weekend is a significant starting point, Prayer and Share is what truly sustains the ministry's impact by providing ongoing spiritual development and community support.
Real Change:
The consistent interaction and support within these groups foster an environment where real change and a deeper Christian walk can occur for participants.
